Code of conduct and governance

The economic surpluses of the Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation are not distributed among the members of the organisation, but are used exclusively for the fulfilment of the purposes set out in the statutes:

• The protection of animals in the broadest sense.
• The protection, conservation and restoration of nature, the environment and ecosystems, including all their resources (flora, fauna, soil, atmosphere, climate and landscape).
• Promotion, creation and expansion of protected natural areas.
• Promote actions to sensitise and raise awareness of respect for animals, nature and the environment.
• Support projects that lead to an eco-social transformation of the territory.
• Promote sustainable economic activities that respect the natural environment.

• The Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation guarantees its autonomy and independence and is not subordinated to any other institution.
• The Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation is non-partisan. This means that the Foundation is in no way associated with political parties, regardless of their tendencies, and distances itself from them in all its activities, appearances and statements.

• To ensure its stability and independence, the Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation will finance itself mainly from its own resources as well as from donations and public grants.
• No financial contributions will be accepted that compromise or jeopardise the fulfilment of the objectives, values or principles of the Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation.
• Public grants may not exceed 15% of the Foundation’s total annual budget.
• The Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation bases all its investment decisions on ethical principles relating to the environment, social issues and corporate governance.

• When donations are received, the Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation will inform its donors about the purpose of their contributions and the results achieved.
• The Foundation will maintain a transparency web portal on which it will publish annually its activity report, its economic-financial information, the grants and donations received and made, the agreements in the form of contracts or agreements that it maintains with other entities, as well as the networks to which it belongs.
• The Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation is part of the Network of Alternative and Solidarity Economies in the Canary Islands (Red Anagos). As such, it will undergo the annual social audit offered by this network and publish the results on its website.
• The Foundation will disclose internally the salaries of all persons working in the organisation.
• The Foundation’s Board of Trustees is responsible for decisions on corporate matters. The Foundation’s employees may participate in decisions that are relevant to them or that directly affect their work.

• The Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation maintains accessible communication channels that allow society to receive important and relevant information about its activities in an understandable way.
• In its relationship with the media, as well as in the use of its social networks, the Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation will act in such a way as to provide rigorous, contrasting, transparent, truthful and relevant information.

• The Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation will seek synergies with other organisations in order to multiply the impact of its initiatives without compromising its identity and essential values.
• In the implementation of its projects and activities, the Canarina Nature and Environment Foundation will co-operate with other organisations of common interest and promote the exchange of information.
