Animal protection
As stated in our statutes, one of the main objectives of the Canarina Foundation is the protection of animals in the broadest sense. Since the first year of the foundation’s creation, various actions have been carried out in this sense, and this area of action has been a constant since the creation of our organisation. We have developed this area of work mainly through the following measures:
School campaign “Deja tu huella”
In close collaboration with the Canary Islands Federation of Animal and Plant Protection Associations (FECAPAP), the Canarina Foundation has been financially supporting the educational campaign “Deja tu huella” (Leave your footprint) since 2021, which aims to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership. This campaign is carried out in educational centres in different municipalities on the island of Tenerife and has the following specific objectives:
- To inform about the needs of pets.
- To inform about the responsibilities that pet owners have to assume.
- To inform about the problem of animal abandonment.
Help for animal shelters and sanctuaries
In parallel with the awareness-raising activities and to directly support the organisations that take in and care for abandoned animals, the Canarina Foundation is launching a call for applications for aid from 2024, through which animal shelters and sanctuaries can submit their applications. These grants are primarily intended to cover veterinary, food, care and infrastructure maintenance costs in order to improve the conditions under which abandoned animals are kept in these facilities.
